Video Summary
And additional info
My Shapeoko 4 Standards router was making some concerning noises, this turned out to be sawdust worked into the lower router bearing so this is how you can fix this issue. Additionaly I also show you how to uninstall and install a router on a Shapeoko 4 standard.
This is what the router sounded like when damaged, there is a slight tonal difference. To me, as someone who regularly uses this mahcine and knows what this router is supposed to sound like, this caught my attention. Tonality aside the spindle itself was difficult to turn manually when turned off which usually isnt the case. So take a listen:
For what it’s worth here’s a supply list, atleast what I used:
– 5mm alan key (used to remove the router from the z gantry)
– Long phillips head screwdriver (used to unfasten the router housing)
– Flat head screwdriver (used to pry the router apart, and check carbon brushes)
– WD-40 (used to lubricate router bearing)
– Zip ties (used to secure the routers power cord)
– Flush cutter (used to clip existing zip tie)
Hopefully this saved someone $80 on a new router!
