in my years of 3D Printing, ive always wanted to print a suit of armor using the printers, and every chance i got i would try to print an iron man helmet, so thats what i did! and at the end i wore it to a comic convention! (also something ive always wanted to do)
First: Ideas
I wanted to base my suit off of the MKV Version of iron mans suits (I mainly loved the way it opened)

So i went searching on thingiverse to find some files i could print, but once i found the files, i realized the model i had picked would not be able to fit my head. so i had to pick 2 different models and merge them into one.. creating the FRANKENHELMET
Once i had gotten the models sliced and begining to print, i had to figure out the electronics, which involved 11 servos, arduino nano, a power supply, and Lots of wiring
Second: wiring
so i had gotten to work on the servos and putting the code onto the arduino, i wanted to have light up eyes to make it look realistic, little did i know i was working with something extremely fragile

the light source that was meant for the eyes had completely broken after i realized that soldering onto the connector pins was making the plastic melt, loosening those points and eventually breaking it, so i had the scrap the light up lenses
Third: Printing

these are pictures of the back half of my helmet

it was all going good and well until everything hit the breaks (Literally). driving home one day, helmet in the back seat, all of a sudden i had to hit the breaks and it rolled onto the floor of my car, with my backpack landing on the faceplate, breaking it. i was running out of time for the convention, so i quickly reprinted the bridge of the nose and put it back together.

Fourth: sanding and priming
here it is before i painted it, and here are the parts that i had Primed and sanded

here is the helmet with everything attached and wired up
Fifth: Done

and here is me wearing it at the convention!
