When I was first deciding on what technique should be my Resident Expert, I was fearful of diving into a new topic as I could possibly fail. I had wanted to crochet since I was young and learned to knit in a quiet antique store, but I was hesitant to begin as the subject appeared lengthy.
As I was determined to teach myself the way to crochet, I knew I would have to find easily understandable tutorials and simplistic patterns. I wanted to create a physical product as my first project rather than just learning the stitches, which led me to this tutorial by Handmade by Mei.
This resource served me extremely well as it prepared me for the longevity and patience that is required to crochet rather than simply focusing on small instant-gratification projects. I would not recommend this method to everyone, yet it proved to serve me well as I continued through my learning journey.
My attempt at the bag
If you wish to learn the technique first rather than an immediate outcome, I would recommend practicing chain stitches.
As I progressed my skills, I progressed to more advanced resources. Crochet with Mahum (https://www.youtube.com/@mahumcrochets/videos) proved to be one of my most reliable resources as she creates in-depth tutorials, engaging “fangirl” projects, and custom patterns.
I have currently created 3 of her patterns, but I would like to learn a new technique from her as I feel my skills have advanced to that level. I would like to learn how to create my own tapestry patterns of any image so I have the ability to create any 2d character I wish as I feel I have become well-rounded in 3d amigurumi figures.
