Boo and Finni Ceramics

Boo and Finni are a great pottery inspiration located around Jonesboro, AR. I love to compare our work and observe the differences. Finding someone to look up to in your field is always beneficial for improvement. They have been doing pottery longer than I have, evident in the quality of their work.

When examining their creations, I’m particularly drawn to their pinch pot mugs. It’s inspiring that, despite their ability to craft more advanced items, Boo and Finni frequently focus on these simpler designs. They consistently find ways to make the pinch pot mugs interesting, showcasing their commitment to mastering the basics. Observing their use of fundamental techniques is reassuring, affirming that I’m on the right track. It’s wise to revisit foundational skills periodically to ensure I’m not rushing my work and compromising its integrity. Comfort can lead to complacency and increased risk of errors. Given the inevitability of some pieces breaking in pottery, taking precautions such as improving handle molding and applying more slip is crucial.

I admire how Boo and Finni infuse their style into everything they create. The textured character of their mugs, with imperfections adding charm, resonates with me. In my own work, I experiment with both textured and smooth finishes, using different techniques. While Boo and Finni achieve texture on the wheel, I’ve primarily utilized tools for textured pieces. However, their example encourages me to explore creating textured pieces on the wheel in the future.

Pottery is an ongoing learning process, allowing individuals to progress at their own pace. Above all, I appreciate the creative freedom to imbue each piece with personal style.
